Astro Camp

As part of their Space unit in Science, our Year 5 pupils had an amazing time participating in Astro Camp, where they had the opportunity to take part in a wide variety of space-themed activities.

The first day focused on the International Space Station; pupils looked how it was built and learned more about what life was like for astronauts who lived on there.

For their day and night activity, pupils looked at the Earth’s rotational spin and how this causes night and day. Using this knowledge, children created a stop-motion animation which they were able to share what they learned with their parents and carers.

Later in the evening, pupils looked at the different types of galaxies, created galaxy artwork, looked at constellations in the night sky, used telescopes to stargaze and ended the night with a hot chocolate and a space themed film.

Some children went home but most of us slept in tents in the hall. We woke up the next morning to a delicious breakfast to sustain us whilst we trained as astronauts.

Day two focussed on astronaut training where we worked on our stamina and problem-solving skills that are needed when completing an extravehicular activity (spacewalk).

In the afternoon, we shared our learning with parents before going home for a well-earned sleep.
