Local Member of Parliament visits Newhall

In January, we were thrilled to welcome our local Member of Parliament, Samantha Niblett, to Newhall Junior School.

Upon arrival, Samantha – who was elected as the Labour MP for South Derbyshire in last year's General Election – was welcomed by our Acting Head of School Clare Weaver, who then took her on a guided tour of the school.

Next, Samantha sat down with a selected group of pupils, who posed a series of pre-prepared questions.

She discussed how she balances her day-to-day roles as an MP, spoke about how she got involved in politics, and highlighted the importance of encouraging young girls to pursue an interest in STEM subjects (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths).

Finally, Samantha shared some crucial advice for those interested in sitting on the Newhall School Council, which is being set up later this year: she encouraged them to listen and ensure all pupils’ views are considered.

"It was a pleasure to welcome Samantha Nibblett MP to our school and introduce her to our enthusiastic pupils,” said our Acting Head of School, Clare Weaver.

“They were eager to ask questions and learn more about the work of an MP. It was a valuable learning experience for everyone, and we look forward to showing her around our new school in the future."

On visiting Newhall, Samantha said: “It was terrific to be shown around Newhall Junior School this week and to meet the lovely team who educate and support the children.

“I absolutely loved my session with children who had brilliant questions to ask me.”

A huge thank you to Samantha for taking time out of her day to visit us at Newhall.
