Year 3 Step Back in Time at Calke Abbey

Recently, our Year 3 pupils embarked on a fascinating journey into the past with a visit to the historic Calke Abbey, as part of their History topic on local listed buildings.

The day was packed with discovery and adventure. We explored the beautiful grounds, learning how the gardens were used in the past, before stepping inside the grand house to see how people once lived. The children were captivated by the collections, the old books and paintings, and especially the mysterious tunnels!

One pupil shared, “I loved the house. My favourite part was seeing the crocodile skull!” Another added, “I enjoyed going on an adventure and getting lost. It must have been amazing to grow up as a child there.”

From marvelling at the huge house to enjoying nature and exploring the darker corners of the estate, the trip brought history to life in the most exciting way.

It was a day full of curiosity, learning and wonder – one we’re sure the children will remember for years to come!
